Meeple!

Do you know with a Meeple is? Neither did I!

Meeple: a small board-game piece that depicts an abstracted human form. They are usually made from wood and painted in a single bright color.

So you can guess what a meeple party is, or a meeple girl, even a meeple cake! But Meeple-a-Thon?

Well, Meeple-a-Thon is a 501(c)(3) charity gaming convention that supports Kansas Cityโ€™s at-risk community members.
An organization The Hubs and I are involved with is this year’s beneficiary, so that’s how we heard about and volunteered at Meeple-a-thon on Friday, helping to set-up and during the opening hour.

WOW!
Beyond my awe of the breadth, depth and detailing of the games themselves
(every stripe of board game and role playing games),
the people were amazingI

I love board games! Gathering with friends or family to play silly games is an ideal night for me.
But true game nerds take strategy, cleverness and creativity beyond. Not to mention their focus!

They are also beyond generous, taking beginner role players along on the journey, welcoming anyone and everyone into their community. All while also raising funds to help at-risk members of our community.

Meeting, observing and working with the meeple people and other volunteers,
I found myself constantly thinking “How cool! There truly is a community for everyone!”

And this meeple community is working — and playing — to help support an organization that supports at-risk people in KC.

We are A Turning Point: We honor dignity, restore worth, and help people navigate sustainable pathways to reimagine their potential.

From the bottom of this non-meeple girl’s heart, I shout THANK YOU to all meeples, for who you are and what you do!!!

Sheet Music!

This month’s Handcrafted Society Challenge theme is “Music”.

We could use any form of music — instruments, albums, CD’s, and of course sheet music as a medium in our craft.

SOOO many cool projects. You don’t want to miss a single one.

Blue & White Tabletop Christmas Trees

Fun, easy and inexpensive tree to make — the trifecta of crafting. Oh, and they look pretty great too!

Ca you guess how I made these?

Best Gifts For Newly Blended Families

Are you searching for a great gift for a newly blended family?

They can be tough, I know!

But here are some things to keep in mind and things to avoid, as well as some of my favorite suggestions.

Another Favorite this Month!

Obviously, I am not the only one who loves scallops.

This rug from Target online is a charming accent piece, particularly if your room already has a lot of pattern going on.

There’s enough variation in color to keep it from flat and boring.

And it’s washable!!!

A person wearing light beige socks and matching fuzzy slippers sits on a textured white blanket, with one slipper partly off their foot, showing a cozy, relaxed setting.
Three crossed legs wearing ribbed socks in pink, maroon, beige, and dark green, set against a dark red background. The socks have ruffled edges at the top.

Shopping With a Cause?

Sometimes referred to as Conscientious Shopping,

There are many companies participating in this movement and Bombas is one of my favorites. They make amazing quality socks, underwear, slippers and more. I’m talking super high quality here.

Best part, for every item purchased, Bombas donates a like item to someone facing homelessness. Over 150 Million items donated since 2013. That’s a lot of comfort going to those in need.

You can add to that by purchasing something for yourself or someone on your gift list.

AND, Everything, EVERYTHING is 25% off through the 18th.
